The symbol of the Christian Church

(Disciples of Christ)

is a red chalice bearing the cross of St. Andrew.

The chalice symbolized the Lord's Supper as the center of life and worship.  Red signifies Christ's blood and our ministry of evangelism.  Andrew was one of the disciples who brought his brother Peter to Jesus (John 1:41 & 42).  St. Andrew is the patron saint of Scotland.  One of our founders, Thomas Campbell, was born in Ireland but came to the United States from Scotland.  His son, Alexander also came from Scotland.  Alexander was also one of the church leaders in the early 1800's who helped shape our history.

Our "tilted" cross used for our church sign, was designed with the use of both the Chalice and the St. Andrew's Cross.  The Chalice is hard to see in this picture but it is directly in front of the word Belmont.
